About Taiwan.com.au Portal

Taiwan.com.au Portal is a cultural and business conduit between Australia and Taiwan. Its goal is to enhance mutual understanding and create communication channels between the two countries.

Corporate and Government Sponsors

Taiwan.com.au Portal offers a unique opportunity for sponsors in an active and growing portal, in a growing marketplace. For Australia's corporate and government agencies, there is a First Tier Sponsorship, which consists of an annual fee to promote their visions and achievements in Chinese to Taiwanese and global Chinese-speaking audiences. Please contact the Site Manager to secure a spot. There are only 5 of these sponsor deals available.

Australian Small and Medium Businesses

Second Tier Sponsorships are available for Australian small and medium business operators who are interested in promoting their products and achievements in Chinese to Taiwanese and global Chinese-speaking audiences. In particular, we support 100 percent Australian-made, Australian-owned products. Please contact the site manager to secure a spot.

Australia's Trade with Taiwan

In Financial Year 2003-04, Taiwan was Australia's 10th largest trading partner, with two-way merchandise trade totaling more than 7.6 billion Australian dollars. Taiwan was also Australia's 8th largest export destination in that financial year, as Australia's merchandise exports to Taiwan amounted to more than 4 billion Australian dollars.

Meanwhile, in Financial Year 2003-04, Australia's exports of services to Taiwan totaled 431 million Australian dollars.

Taiwan's E-Business Strength

Taiwan has well-developed e-business infrastructure and a world-class technology sector. With its trade-driven economy, the island is an ideal location for the development of e-business. The Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) estimates that total revenues from e-business in Taiwan are expected to jump from US$1.4 billion in 1999 to US$46.6 billion in 2004.

The following information further showcases Taiwan's e-business infrastructure:

  • Taiwan has an estimated 7.8 million Internet users, with an online penetration rate of 34 per cent.
  • Some 44.3 per cent of all businesses in Taiwan are now connected to the Internet.
  • There are more than 100 officially registered Internet service providers (ISPs) in Taiwan.
  • ADSL services are now available to 98.9 percent of all households with more than one million subscribers by the end of 2001.
  • An E-Government program will see all Taiwan Government services online by the end of 2003 with more than 1500 Internet based services in four years.

Long-term Strategy regarding Taiwan-China Relationship

Taiwan.com.au Portal holds a long-term strategy that is premised on a commonsense outcome to the China vs Taiwan political question. We believe that the tension will gradually subside between the two countries. Our premise leads on to a view that Taiwan will one day, not too many years away, be a major doorway into the larger Chinese IT marketplace. This will raise the commercial significance of Taiwan.com.au Portal to Australian and global English-speaking companies.
