AirportsChiang Kai-Shek International Airport The Chiang Kai-Shek International Airport is the perfect gateway to both Northeast and Southeast Asia. It is located in Taiwan's Taoyuan County, approximately 40 kilometers or about 50 minutes by car or bus from downtown Taipei. The airport was opened in 1979 at the initial capacity of 30,000 flights annually. However, since the opening of the second terminal in 2000, the airport has been handling more than 149,000 flights every year. In 2004 the airport processed approximately 20 million travelers, an amazing figure when compared to the original expectation of three million in 1979. Also in 2004 the airport's cargo volume was 1,5 million tons, while in 1979 it was only 190,000 tons. From the Chiang Kai-Shek International Airport there are buses that take you to every corner of Taiwan. Otherwise, you can call a taxi, rent a car, or take a ride with families, friends or colleagues who pick you up from the airport. There are plenty of places to go and things to see in northern, west-central and eastern Taiwan. The CKS Airport Hotel The CKS Airport Hotel is located in the CKS International Airport, one of the most modern hotels in Asia. The V-shaped hotel is surrounded by vast green yards. It has a comfortable environment and is away from the bustles of the city. The hotel offers state of the art facilities and the best quality of services. It not only provides a good venue for conference, party, rest and vacation, but also meets the various demands of the travelers inbound and outbound. There are free shuttle bus services to the CKS Airport Hotel from the two terminals of the airport. The Chung Cheng Aviation Museum Inaugurated in 1981, the Chung Cheng Aviation Museum was constructed by the Civil Aeronautics Administration of Communications Ministry in line with the government's policy of cultural development for the purpose of preserving aviation history and improving public understanding of the civil aviation industry. The museum provides educational, creative and enjoyable exhibitions rich with information on aviation and illustrated with accurate replicas of real aircraft. The museum is the first of its kind in Taiwan. There are free shuttle bus services to the Chung Cheng Aviation Museum, from the two terminals of the airport, and from the Airport Hotel.
The Kaoshiung International Airport The Kaoshiung International Airport was built at the Japanese occupation era. After the ROC government arrived at Taiwan in 1949, the airport was used as the training base for the Air Force. In 1965, the Civil Aeronautics Administration took over the management of the airport in order to develop the air transporting business in southern Taiwan. The airport started running international cargo business in 1969 and international travel business in 1972. While it is only one-fifth the size of that of the Chiang Kai-Shek International Airport in northern Taiwan, the Kaoshiung International Airport handles a significant amount of travelers and cargo each year. In 2004, for example, the airport handled more than 86,000 domestic and international flights. It processed more than 7.5 million travelers and 133,000 tons of cargo in that year. From the Kaoshiung International Airport there are buses that take you to the City of Kaoshiung. Otherwise, you can call a taxi, rent a car, or take a ride with families, friends or colleagues who pick you up from the airport. There are plenty of places to go and things to see in southern, eastern and west-central Taiwan.
