2005 Sailfish Festival
The 2005 Sailfish Festival takes place in Chenggong Township in eastern Taiwan's Taitung County, from November 5 to 6. Taiwan's east coast is renowned for its rich natural resources. People of the local Amis aboriginal tribes have long maintained a friendly relationship with Mother Nature, not only harvesting from but also contributing to the preservation of wildlife in the Pacific Ocean. The sailfish festival is organized with the following goals -- to familiarize local and international visitors with the history of the Amis aboriginal tribe's fishing and hunting culture; to present and to give new life to traditional Amis fishing and hunting culture; and to promote Amis arts and handcrafts. Various exhibitions and activities are held in order to achieve these goals, including a display of Amis fishing and hunting tools and other equipment, DIY arts and handcrafts lessons, seminars and public lectures on the history of Amis fishing and hunting culture, and presentations of films that introduce Taiwan's east coast and the area's history and culture under the influence of the Pacific Ocean. The 2005 Sailfish Festival is organized by the East Coast National Scenic Area Administration. |
