Free Mothers' Day calls offered to immigrant spouses

This article was published by the Taiwan Headlines on May 11, 2006. It reports that the Taichung County Government in central Taiwan plans to offer free international phone calls to foreign women who are married to Taiwanese men on the eve of Mother's Day. This is a move that has warmed the hearts of many Southeast Asian women.

Taiwan's leading telecom company, Chung Hwa Telecom, has set up 5 international call lines in its branch in Taichung County's Fengyuan City. People from Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia and China who have maried a Taichung County resident can use the lines to call their mothers.

Meanwhile, the Taichung County Government also urges all its citizens to call home and say "Happy Mother's Day" to their mothers.
