Recent exhibition in the Museum of World Religions

This article was written by Rita Fang and published by the Taiwan Journal on August 12, 2005. It features the recent exhibition in Taiwan's Museum of World Religions - "Pursuing Good Fortune - Taiwanese Folk Cultural Artifacts".

The theme of the exhibition is Taiwanese folk religion, including temple design and religious paraphernalia that are vital aspects of Taiwanese culture. The items on display are all related to the folk belief in protecting against evil spirits and influences. This article gives a very detailed and useful introduction to most of these items, such as temple columns and wall panels. Other items in focus include religions objects carved in the forms of five divine animals -- tortoises, lions, dragons, phoenixes and chilins.

The exhibition runs from July 29, 2005, to February 10, 2006.
