Chinese Version of "This Precious Life" published in Taiwan

The Chinese version of Khandro Rinpoche's "This Precious Life" was recently published in Taiwan via the newly-established Tibetan Text Society in Taipei. With a Foreword by the Dalai Lama, this book explores how we can better use our short lives to pursue the spiritual path.

Khandro Rinpoche was born in India in 1967. She is the daughter of the Tibetan meditation master His Holiness Mindrolling Trichen and is herself a renowned teacher in the Kagyu and Nyingma lineages of Tibetan Buddhism. As the head of a Tibetan Buddhist monastery for nuns in India, she divides her time between teaching in the West, running the nunnery, and supporting charity projects for Tibetan refugees in India. Her book "This Precious Life" was first published in 2003 by Shambhala Publications, Inc. in the United States and since then has received praises from all over the world .

"This Precious Life" is based on the traditional Tibetan Buddhist framework of the Four Reminders -- the preciousnss of human birth, the truth of impermanence, the reality of suffering, and the inescapability of karma. Using this framework and various contemplative exercises, Khandro Rinpoche explains how we can all learn to see our lives as a gift and bring inner peace and happiness to ourselves and those around us.

The Tibetan Text Society, Taipei, Taiwan

The Chinese version of "This Precious Life" was translated by two members of the Tibetan Text Society -- Hui-lan Zeng and Su-an Lin -- and published by BOBOS Publishing Co., Ltd. in 2005. The goal of the Tibetan Text Society is to translate Tibetan sutras and various scholars' works in this field into Chinese. The organization aims to:

• Researching on Tibetan Sutras -- studying and interpreting important texts taught by various schools of Tibetan Buddhism; introducing traditional Tibetan Buddhist teachings to today's Tibetan Buddhism followers in Taiwan; preparing transcripts of interviews with a wide range of Tibetan Buddhist masters and scholars; translating and publishing research results of overseas Tibetan Buddhism scholars.

• Organizing Conferences and Seminars -- sponsoring conferences and seminars that focus on the studying and teaching of Tibetan language, culture, history and Buddhist texts in Taiwan; organizing field trips to overseas academic and cultural institutions in order to promote Buddhist learnings.

• Publicizing the Tibetan Text Society's Research Results -- publishing periodicals that introduce Tibetan language, history, culture, Tibetan Buddhist heritage, and Tibetan Buddhist texts; preparing publications that feature research results of, and interviews with, scholars both local and overseas in the field of Tibetan Buddhism; promoting the Tibetan Text Society's translations and studies of Tibetan sutras and related academic works; initiating academic and cultural communications and cooperations between scholars both local and overseas in the field of Tibetan Buddhism.
