Crowded capital to offer subsidy for more children
This article was published by the Taiwan Headlines on June 30, 2006. It reports that starting in fall 2006, the Taipei City Government will offer a NT$500 subsidy per semester to students at public elementary schools who are the third child or higher in their family. The measure is part of an effort for the Taipei City Government to encourage residents to have more children, because the crowded city's birth rate has been dropping in recent years. The Taipei City Government has proposed several other initiatives. These include a plan to allow the third child or upward in a family to be given priority to attend public preschools, and a proposal to provide such children with medical subsidies in the form of reduced registration fees at hospitals and local clinics. |
