National Central University to offer first Hakka studies
This article was from The Taiwan News and published by The Taiwan Headlines on June 13, 2003. Although the earliest Hakka immigrants arrived in Taiwan hundreds of years ago, their culture has taken a backseat to the Han Chinese and Taiwanese cultures. The Hakka community is working to change that with the establishment of the world's first College of Hakka Studies (CHS) at the National Central University. Located in Taoyuan County's Chungli township, the College of Hakka Studies will include institutes of Hakka social studies, Hakka language studies and Hakka economic and political studies. |
