Amei hold fishing rites in Hualien
This article was from The United Daily News and published by The Taiwan Headlines on June 9, 2003. Three groups of Amei Aboriginal tribespeople recently participated in a Fishing Festival in Hualien, as members took in a rich harvest from the sea and then enjoyed the fruits of their labor on the shore, with music and dancing. Each year in mid-June, when the fish harvest began to come in, the ancestors of today's Amei took a night out to go to the shore and fish from each beach, using the fish and seafood they took in as sacrifices and praying for abundance and blessings. This activity became an annual tradition among the fishing Amei. |
