Members of nation's first NCC receive approval by legislators

This article was written by Cecilia Fanchiang and published by the Taiwan Journal on January 27, 2006. It reports that lawmakers in Taiwan recently confirmed 12 candidates who will form the first National Communications Committee. These individuals, who are experts and professionals in communications, law and information technology, will soon be appointed by the Executive Yuan as full-time government personnel.

The establishment of the National Communications Commission was first proposed in 2003. The commission is roughly modeled on the Federal Communications Commission in the United States. It will be an independent and nonpartisan body supervised by nominated commissioners to present its politicization. It is expected that the commission will help free Taiwan's media from manipulation by political parties and vested interests.
