Foreign spouses in Taiwan urged to upgrade language skills
This article was written by Chang Ling-yin and published by the Macroview Weekly on July 27, 2005. As of May 2005, there are 126,361 foreign spouses in Taiwan. Only 16 percent of these had attended school to study Chinese. This may have dramatically negative impact on the education of their children in Taiwan. The Ministry of Education urges foreign spouses to upgrade their language skills, and encourages partners and family members to be accommodating of these individuals' decision to do so. |
