This article was published by the Taiwan Headlines on March 3, 2006. It reports that Taiwan's domestic contract manufacturers of digital still cameras are enjoying an increase in shipments of their products in 2006. Their combined shipments are expected to reach 36.5 million units in 2006, securing about 40 percent of the world market.

Currently, Taiwan is the world's largest single production center for the digital still cameras. Government officials said that worldwide shipments of digital still cameras totaled 80 million units in 2005. The figure is expected to increase by 12.5 percent and reach 90 million units in 2006.

Although the global market is slowing down, Taiwan's manufacturers are enjoying an annual shipment growth of more than 30 percent in 2006 because of the release of contract orders from Japanese big companies. Taiwan's top-four manufacturers of digital still cameras are expected to see an annual growth of 38 percent, shipping 36.5 million units in 2006, as compared to 26.4 million units in 2005.
