Major Telecoms expand Taiwan R&D

It features Alcatel Taiwan, a branch of Alcatel SA of France, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in Taiwan by launching its first information and communications technology (ICT) research and development center in Asia in Taipei City's Neihu Technology Park. According to this article, the R&D center will operate on a cooperative basis with Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute, working to integrate information technology, telecommunications and other communications to provide clients with a wide range of test platforms, including those for third-generation cellular technologies, Internet protocol networks and next-generation networks. Meanwhile, Ericsson Taiwan plans to upgrade its testing laboratory, Ericsson Mobility World, into an innovation center focusing on gaming, third-generation mobile communications and multimedia technologies, with an investment of over US$2.9 million. Nokia has also announced recently its intention to invest US$9 million and open a research and development center in Taiwan to help local Internet-content and third-generation cellular service providers develop value-added applications. |
