Selected drivers of nation's highways test new electronic toll paying system
This article was written by Cecilia Fanchiang and published by the Taiwan Journal on January 20, 2006. It reports that drivers in Taiwan now have alternatives as to how to pay at the toll stations along the nation's three highways. A new electronic Toll Collection system was recently tested on highways in southern Taiwan. It should lead to stop-free toll collecting at all tollbooths on the nation's highways. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications plans to phase out the old method of collecting tolls on Taiwan's roads in favor of full automation by 2009. This is expected to affect five million drivers in Taiwan. More detailed information about the new electronic toll collection system on Taiwan's highways is provided in this article. |
