Flights to cross strait over holidays

This article was written by Cecilia Fanchiang and published by the Taiwan Journal on January 27, 2006. It reports that a total of 144 flights, provided by six airlines each from Taiwan and China, will transport passengers across the Taiwan Strait from January 20 to February 13, during the Lunar New Year holidays. Each of these charter flights is required to enter Hong Kong airspace before proceeding on to its final destination.

Not only Taiwanese businessmen living in China and their families, but also Taiwanese students and tourists, are eligible to book these charter flights, provided that they are in possession of valid travel documents. There are 56 flights between Taipei and Shanghai, 26 flights between Taipei and Beijing, and 24 flights between Taipei and Guangzhou. A new destination added in 2006 is Xiamen.
