Government rolls out new incentives to bring Taishang capital back home
This article was written by Bowun Jhu and published by the Taiwan Journal on December 16, 2005. It reports that the government in Taiwan recently announced a package of incentives designed to encourage overseas-based Taiwanese companies to invest in Taiwan again. In recent years many Taiwanese companies have relocated their manufacturing operations abroad, mainly to China. The government's aim is to provide preferential rentals to manufacturers who lease government-owned industrial land for up to six years. This is a big incentive for those overseas-based Taiwanese enterprises that wish to set up operations in Taiwan's various industrial parks. The Ministry of Economic Affairs has been promoting similar programs in recent years. Since 2001, these programs have been one of the primary factors that contribute to the decision of more than 700 overseas-based Taiwanese companies to set up operations in Taiwan again. These companies have already invested about US$210 million in Taiwan. The new program will take effect on July 1, 2006. The government plans to provide further assistance to interested overseas-based Taiwanese companies in getting business loans and in obtaining land in Taiwan's various industrial parks. More details are provided in this article. |
