Financial officials, business leaders tout Taiwan investment environment
This article was written by Bowun Jhu and published by the Taiwan Journal on October 21, 2005. It features the Taiwan Global Investment Forum, which was held recently in New York City and London. The goal of the forum was to introduce Taiwan's financial sector and ongoing reform measures, and to promote investment opportunities in Taiwan. Nearly 250 managers and financial experts from major international financial institutions attended the forum. These institutions control assets valued at around US$2.6 trillion, or about one-third of the global total. This article provides great details about the forum, who attended, what was discussed, and so on. It also features several questions raised during the forum, the most significant of which was the possibility of establishing an agreement between Taiwan and China that would enable their banks to conduct transactions directly and to establish branch offices in each other's territory. |
