Taiwan investment spurs growth in Africa
This article was written by Du Ling and published by The Taiwan Journal on July 4, 2003. Taiwan's representative to South Africa, Du Ling, discusses Taiwanese investment in southern Africa in his paper "Taiwanese Investment in South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho: A Case Study", which was presented to the African-Asian Society on June 12. In this important paper, Du estimates that since the early 1980s, Taiwanese entrepreneurs have invested US$1.5 billion in 620 companies, creating around 41,000 local jobs. His survey indicates that many products manufactured by Taiwanese investors in South Africa are leading the domestic market. |
