SMEs honored for entrepreneurship
This article was written by Meifang Lee and published by Taiwan Journal on October 15, 2004. President Chen Shui-bian honored the winners of national awards for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Taipei on October 8. The important role of the SMEs in Taiwan's economic development was again recognized. The National SME Awards have been given to more than 100 companies since its launch by the Ministry of Economic Affairs in 1992. This year, 12 local companies and 4 overseas companies were selected out of more than 100 candidates recommended by government organizations, industrial or commercial associations, and educational or research institutions. Assessment criteria employed by the selection and judging panels include general performance of the nominated companies (e.g. management, innovation strategies, marketing, human resources development, and fulfillment of social obligations) and corporate financial status. Details about the winners of the National SME Awards are provided in the article. |
