Taiwan ranked 1st in Asia for growth competitiveness

 

This article was from the Central News Agency and published by the Macroview Weekly on September 28, 2005. It reports that in a survey conducted by the Geneva-based World Economic Forum, Taiwan was ranked first in Asia and fifth in the world in terms of growth competitiveness.

According to the World Economic Forum, Taiwan is only behind Finland, the United States, Sweden and Denmark among the 117 economies covered in the 2005-2006 survey. More significantly, although Taiwan's rank is one place lower than that in 2004-2005, it leads Asian countries for the fourth consecutive year.

Singapore is ranked sixth in the survey, followed by Japan at12th, South Korea at 17th, Malaysia at 24th, Hong Kong at 26th, China at 49th, and Indonesia at 74th. All Asian countries, except for South Korea and Malaysia, are in a lower rank in 2005-2006 when compared with the previous year.
