According to a report recently released by the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, Taiwan's foreign exchange reserves rank third in the world, behind Japan and China.

Taiwan's foreign exchange reserves amounted to US$92.5 billion at the end of 1994. Ten years later, by the end of 2004, the figure has moved up to US$241.7 billion. This amount is enough to pay for Taiwan's imports for the next 17.3 months, second only to Japan's 22 months.
