MAC to relax visa rules for Chinese entertainers
This article was published by the Taiwan Headlines on March 22, 2006. It reports that the government in Taiwan plans to revise the existing law that regulates exchanges between people across the Taiwan Strait, in order to allow Chinese entertainers to come to Taiwan legally for commercial activities. The current Statue Governing the Relations between the People of the Taiwan Ara and the Mainland Area was set up in 1992 and only covers professional exchanges and family reunions. Now it needs to be expanded to incorporate the concept of commercial activities. Officials from the Mainland Affairs Council, Bureau of Immigration, Government Information Office and various political parities recently gathered together to discuss how to relax the restrictions on Chinese entertainers who wish to participate in various activities in Taiwan. Other government agencies such as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Council for Cultural Affairs and Ministry of the Interior will also be consulted. Since the regulations are categories as administrative statues, all new amendments will not be required to be approved by the Legislative Yuan. |
