Multilateral RelationsAs introduced by the Yearbook of the Republic of China:
Increasing global interdependence continues to redefine the traditional concept of national sovereignty. Since Taiwan, like all other countries, is intimately affected by globalization, it has a legitimate right to actively participate in multilateral mechanisms to address relevant issues. Taiwan has continued making progress in obtaining membership in international organizations and is now a member of 22 intergovernmental organizations, including the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units of the World. It also has observer status or associate membership in 14 intergovernmental organizations, including the Competition Committee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the General Conference of Weights and Measures (CGPM). The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has demonstrated its appreciation for Taiwan's support by according "special observer" status to the Taiwan delegation to EBRD Annual Meetings. |
