ROC's labor productivity growth ranks 8th in the world

According to statistics released by the United States Department of Labor, the growth rate of the labor productivity of Taiwan's manufacturing sector for 2003 ranked eighth globally. The growth rate was 3.6 percent, equal to that of Denmark.

Also according to the statistics, Japan enjoyed the world's largest growth rate in the labor productivity of its manufacturing sector at 11 percent. This was followed by the United States at 9.7 percent, South Korea at 9 percent, Swiss at 6.5 percent, Britain at 5.6 percent, Belgium at 4.7 percent and Australia at 3.8 percent.

According to Taiwan's Council of Labor Affairs, Taiwan's manufacturing sector had a total of 2.67 million employees in 2003. This accounts for 27.3 percent of the total employees on the island.
