Civil-service Internet job postings to be consolidated in January

This article was written by Cecilia Fanchiang and published by the Taiwan Journal on December 16, 2005. According to the Bureau of Employment and Vocational Training under the Council of Labor Affairs, postings for government job opportunities will be made available through an integrated Internet service since January 2006.

The new Internet service will combine online job databases that used to be individually administered by the Council of Labor Affairs, the Central Personnel Administration, and the Ministry of Civil Service. It is hoped that the new service will help reduce Taiwan's unemployment rate.

The article goes on to introduce Taiwan's "e-government" efforts and achievements in recent years, which have inspired the Council of Labor Affairs to establish the aforementioned new Internet service. The "e-government" program aims to provide broadband Internet access in six million households in Taiwan by 2008. In 2004, about 65 percent of households in Taiwan already have access to the Internet.

More specifically, by the end of June 2002, about 85 percent of government agencies had established an online presence. Nearly one million citizens, or about 20 percent of the population in Taiwan, filed their income taxes online in 2004.

More detailed information about Taiwan's "e-government" program is provided in this article.
