World Congress helps upgrade Taiwan's fashion industry profile

This article was published by the Microview Weekly on August 15, 2007. It reports that the smooth conclusion of the 32nd World Congress of Master Tailors held in Taipei has helped upgrade local fashion industry's international profile and visibility.

The congress, held from August 6 to 9 at the Taipei International Convention Center, brought together 206 experienced tailors from 15 countries around the world to show off their tailoring skills and fashion designs as well as exchange professional knowledge.

According to organizers of the event, Taiwan won the bid to host the biennial conference after vigorous competition from many countries, including Austria, America, and Thailand, during the previous conference held in Berlin, Germany, in 2005. The first congress was held in Brussels, Belgium, in 1910.

The four-day event included a series of activities, such as Western suit tailoring competitions and fashion shows, to provide an exchange platform for the world's outstanding tailors.

Taiwan joined the federation in 2003 and was the third Asian country to host the event after Japan, which held the event in Tokyo in 1964, and South Korea, which hosted the event in Seoul in 1991. The event was a big chance to bring Taiwan to the world stage.

Organizers of the event also invited many domestic designers to put on fashion shows to present Taiwan's vitality and creativity in the tailoring industry.

According to the participating domestic designers, Taiwan's world-class tailoring techniques to produce Western suits have been recognized around the world. More exchanges with fashion design brands favored by young people will help create more business opportunities with sectors of the industry requiring high-standard craftsmanship.
