PMC to promote robotic technology in Taiwan
This article was published by the Microview Weekly on August 8, 2007. It reports that the Precision Machinery Research and Development Center (PMC) in Taiwan's central city of Taichung will promote robotic technology in Taiwan. At the 2007 Taipei computer Application Show held at the Taipei World Trade Center, the PMC It invites interested persons to join its design team work. At the computer application show, the exhibition of various types of robots attracted much of the attention of the audience. At the “Gathering of Robots” pavilion, more than 20 robots developed locally or introduced from Japan demonstrated their exquisite actions, with a robot demonstrating a slow motion Chinese martial art tai chi and winning the acclaim of many. In addition to offering the audience a chance to experience personally how to manipulate a robot, organizers of the event also introduced the history of robotic development in Taiwan and exhibited a variety of relevant components. According to the PMC, the people in Taiwan have little knowledge of robots, and that is why the PMC organized the robot exhibition at this year's computer application show. Most people do not understand that most of the chips used in robots around the world are made by Taiwanese companies. To boost Taiwan's robotic industry, the PMC will cooperate with the Ministry of Economic Affairs in forming a platform for the general public to join in the PMC's design work. Noting that robotics involves many other high-tech spheres, including machinery, information, electronics, and electrical engineering, the PMC welcomes students to join in its work so as to establish a strong robotic industry in Taiwan. |
