Small-displacement ATV exports suffer volume decreases

This article was published by the Taiwan Headlines on March 31, 2006. It reports that the exports of small displacement all terrain vehicles (ATVs) by Taiwan manufacturers, due to fierce price-cutting competition from rivals in China and other Southeast Asian countries. Most local suppliers have suffered a 30-percent volume decrease with their ATV exports.

Many Taiwanese makers believe that strong competition is not a bad thing. Instead, it is a strong stimulating force that urges them to upgrade their product quality and to increase engine displacements for the upper international market.

Other powered two-wheeler (PTW) and engine manufacturers are also upgrading their engine displacements. Many of them are now working on PTW and ATV engines larger than 400cc. These engines are expected to be more powerful platforms for higher-margin products, such as heavy-duty ATVs, PTWs and utility vehicles.

Despite the temporary decrease in Taiwan's small-displacement ATV exports, many foreign buyers might still send their orders to Taiwanese suppliers, who can guarantee the good quality and functions of their products and their satisfactory after-sales services.
