This article was published by the Taiwan Headlines on March 15, 2006. It reports that Taiwan's Acer Inc. recently announced that it plans to push up sales in China to US$1 billion in 2006, from US$500 million in 2005. According to representatives from Acer, the projections are made on the basis of its adoption of a brand-new distribution mode in China in 2005. It is estimated that Acer may sell about 110,000 notebook personal computers in China in the first quarter of 2006, double the total of 57,000 units sold in the fourth quarter of 2005. In recent years, Acer's operating strategy in China has drawn much attention in the information-technology field worldwide. The company ranked 4th in China's notebook market in the first quarter of 2006. It is expected that Acer will squeeze into the list of China's top thee notebook brands in the second half of 2006. At present, Acer is still concentrating on the European market, which accounts for 60 to 65 percent of the company's total sales. However, the company has gradually increased sales to the United States, the Asia-Pacific region, and the greater Chinese market. Indeed, China is viewed as being one of the world's highest-growing markets for PCs in the near future. |
