Bicycle design contest sets global trends

This article was published by the Taiwan Headlines on March 7, 2006. It features the 10th International Bicycle Design Competition in Taiwan, which has attracted more than 1,000 registrations from nearly 60 countries. The competition was sponsored by the Department of Industrial Technology under the Ministry of Economic Affairs and organized by the Cycling and Health Tech Industry R&D Center in Taiwan. The registered designs demonstrate a wide range of fresh ideas that incorporate new forms, materials and functions of bicycles.

Taiwan's bicycle industry needs to continue its development of high quality, innovative and multi-functional products, in order to dominate the global trend and consolidate its leading position in bicycle design. Throughout the years, the International Bicycle Design Competition has been providing an opportunity for local and international bicycle designers, manufacturers and fans to share their experiences. The competition has been endorsed by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design since 1999.

The International Bicycle Design Competition is the only professional competition of its type worldwide. Over the 10-year period since its launch in 1996, no less than 7,252 designers from 83 countries have entered the competition.

Winners of the competition will be announced on March 8, the opening day of the Taipei International Cycle Show. The winner of the grand prize will collect a cash prize of NT$500,000.
