Sunplus emerges as world's no.2 DVD-chip supplier
This article was published by the Taiwan Headlines on March 2, 2006. It reports that Taiwan's Sunplus Technology Co., Ltd. is currently the world's No. 2 supplier of chips for DVD players, ranking only behind Taiwan's MediaTek Inc. As Sunplus recently began its pilot production of chips for DVD-recordable drives, it is expected that the company will further narrow its distance from MediaTek. Sunplus also rivals MediaTek in the market for chips for liquid-crystal display televisions (LCD TVs) and digital TVs. The company plans to put out several new products in 2006, including chips for personal handyphone system (PHS) handsets, MP3-music players and LCD TVs. It also expects to ship over 100 million MP3 players worldwide in 2006. Sunplus has introduced MP3-player chips combined with flash memory devices. The company expects the market for the chips to grow continuously and plans to grab 10 percent of the world market in 2006. |
