HTC to ship 10-15m Smart, PDA phones in 2006

This article was published by the Taiwan Headlines on May 4, 2006. It reports that Taiwan's High Tech Computer Corp., the world's largest Windows-based smartphone maker, is expected to challenge an annual shipment goal of 10 million to 15 million units in 2006. This will be a 60- to 100-percent increase from the figure in 2005.

In 2005, High Tech Computer Corp. shipped over 6 million smartphones and PDA phones. The company's customer list covers major telecom carriers in Europe and the United States, as well as many leading international brands such as HP and Palm. In 2006, the company is expected to win a record-volume order from Palm. This is despite the fact that Palm has already secured two other Taiwanese suppliers.

High Tech Computer Corp. recently announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2006. During this period, the company's net income totalled NT$5.39 billion (US$168.53 million). Meanwhile, the company's revenues for 2005 increased 101 percent from 2004 to reach NT$73.15 billion (US$2.25 billion). Its after-tax earnings in 2005 stood at NT$11.78 billion (US$368.19 million), which represents a considerable annual growth of 206 percent.
