Taipei Plas 2006 highlights machines for 3C products

It features the 2006 Taipei International Plastics and Rubber Industry Show (Taipei Plas), which took place at the Taipei World Trade Center from March 23 to 27. The show highlighted many state-of-the-art plastics and rubber processing machines and accessories for the production of precision products, particularly for the 3C (consumer electronics, computer, communications) industry. Also highlighted in the show are all-electric injection molding machines, which feature clean production and energy savings. It is expected that these machines will dominate the injection molding machinery sector in industrialized nations by 2008. The Taipei International Plastics and Rubber Industry Show is jointly organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council and the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry. In 2006, the show attracted a total of 13,824 visitors from Taiwan and aborad, an increase of 10 percent from 2004. Of the total visitors, 2,242 came from 104 nations around the world, up 12.38 percent from 2004. The next show will be held at a new exhibition hall in Taipei City's Nangang District in March 2008. The five largest visiting contingents at the Taipei Plas 2006 were from Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. In terms of areas and regions, Asia ranked first with 1,433 buyers and accounted for 63.92 percent of the total buyers. It was followed by the Middle East with 203, Europe with 190, Africa with 173, North America with 98, South America with 78, Oceania with 34, and Central America with 33. Meanwhile, a total of 376 exhibitors from Taiwan and abroad occupied 2,028 booths at the show, up more than 10 percent from 2004. Of this total, 77 exhibitors came from overseas and occupied 249 booths. Well-known foreign exhibitors included Japan's Toshiba and Sumimoto, and Germany's Krauss Maffei and Ferromatik Milacron. In order to encourage domestic manufacturers to create innovative products, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council and the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry jointly launched a special competition for "Excellence in Research and Innovation" at the show. Awards were presented to the companies that showcases the most advanced products through their research and development projects over the past two years.
