Vibo claims leadership over Chunghwa in 3G cellular competition
This article was published by the Taiwan Headlines on April 10, 2006. It reports that according to Taiwan's Vibo Telecom Inc., the number of its subscribers for third-generation (3G) cellular service in March 2006 was close to 100,000, which was larger than the number of those subscribing to the 3G service provided by Chunghwa Telecom Co. In recent years, Vibo has been aggressively developing the end-user market, the enterprise market and the new-application market. The company recently signed a strategic agreement with Eastern Broadcasting Co. to equip its reporters with 50 3G phones. These 3G phones will be used as satellite newsgathering (SNG) tools to send real-time news pictures. According to Vibo, the company does not rule out the possibility of inking similar deals with other TV stations. Vibo, Chunghwa Telecom Co., Taiwan Cellula Corp. and Far EasTone Telecom Co., Ltd. kicked off 3G service in the second half of 2005. These four companies are Taiwan's first providers of the telecom service. |
