Taiwan's economic freedom rates high in think tank study

Taiwan's economic freedom was rated as the 27th best among some 160 countries and economies in the world, according to the 2003 Index of Economic Freedom, which was compiled by the Washington-based Heritage Foundation. Hong Kong was listed as the best area in terms of economic freedom, followed by Singapore, Luxemburg, New Zealand, Ireland, Denmark, Estonia, the United States, Australia and Britain. In Asia, Taiwan's rating was ahead of Japan's 35th position, South Korea's 52nd place and China's 127th.
