Government backs three high-tech investment projects in central Taiwan
This article was published by the Taiwan Headlines on March 3, 2006. It reports that the government in Taiwan recently decided to iron out all the problems hindering three investment projects at the Central Taiwan Science Park as soon as possible. The three projects are invested by the PowerChip Semiconductor, the AU Optronics, and the Chunghwa Picture Tub. The three investment projects, costing a combined NT$300 billion (US$9.3 billion), are estimated to yield a total revenue of NT$1.9 trillion (US$59.5 billion) and create 18,000 jobs for Taiwan. It is hoped that they can also accelerate the development of Taiwan's optoelectronics and semiconductor industries and inspire peripheral segments to invest. All three companies will start constructing their facilities in 2006, as soon as environmental assessments on their projects are completed. In addition to boosting the formation of an optoelectronics industry cluster and inspiring more enterprises to invest at the Central Taiwan Science Park, the government is also planning to help local suppliers of manufacturing equipment for TFT-LCD panels to export their products. |
