Yunlin County -- Introduction

 

Yunlin County is located at the west-central part of Taiwan, along the island's western coast. The county stands at the north tip of the Chianan Plain, bordering Nantou County in the east, Changhua County in the north with the Choshui River as water shed, and the Chiayi County in the south with the Peikang River as water shed.

Yunlin County has a total land area of nearly 1,300 square kilometers and a population of about 750,000. The county's major rivers, such as the Choshui River, the Chingshui River, the Peikang River and the Huwei River, run from east to west into the Taiwan Strait.

Under the jurisdiction of the Yunlin County Government are one city, five urban townships and 14 rural townships. Touliu City, Kuken Township and Linnei Township cover some mountains, while the rest are plains.
