Huangsi Temple

Huangsi Temple is located in Dadu Township in central Taiwan's Taichung County. It is also called Wen Chang Temple, as it is dedicated to Wen Chang Ti Chun, the god that looks after scholars and academics.

Huangsi Temple was built in 1888, in traditional southern Fujian style. During the Japanese colonial occupation of Taiwan (1895-1945), the temple was shut down. Part of the temple's property was sold and many of its religious objects were stolen. In 1986, the government designated the temple as a third grade historical site and began restoring the temple.

The decoration of the Huangsi Temple is delicate and with refined brick works. It is one of the most artistic buildings in Taiwan and is highly valued in the field of architecture. The temple's roof has five sections and all the corners are shaped like swallow tails. There are ventilators on the smaller roofs, a design that is both artistic and practical.
