Confucius Temple and Martyrs' Shrine
Taichung City's Confucius Temple is large and colorful. It was built to imitate a Sung dynasty square-shaped palace. Every year, on September 28, the birthday of Confucius, the temple's main door is opened to embrace a dawn ceremony that commemorates the sage. A short walk away from the Confucius Temple is the Martyrs' Shrine, which is dedicated to the fallen heroes of China's many wars. The shrine's impressive gateway and its traditional Chinese palace-styled architecture make it an impressive neighbor to the Confucius Temple. |
