Dakeng Forest Recreation Area

The Dakeng Forest Recreation Area is located in Taichung City's Beitun District. It has one of the best preserved natural environments in the Taichung area. The name Dakeng came from the dwellers that lived here in the past, who gathered in a pit valley that was about 350-meter wide. "Dakeng" in Chinese means "big hole in the ground".

The people who came here to settle in the beginning were mostly from the kinsfolk of Ke Chia in today's Hsinshe Township in Taichung County. Prior to that, this land was the gathering place of the Ping Pu aboriginal tribe.

The Dakeng Forest Recreation Area boasts more than 30 species of trees. In autumn, visitors can enjoy the view of the golden leaves falling everywhere and covering the ground. There are 8 hiking tracks in the area, covering a total of 3,300 hectares and stretching nearly 20 kilometers. The area also has other recreational facilities, including tourist farms, children's playgrounds and spas.
