New Era Art Resort

The New Ear Art Resort is located in Puli Township in central Taiwan's Nantou County. It was established in 1987 in honor of the renowned Taiwanese sculptor Lin Yuan.

The main building of the New Era Art Resort is the Lin Yuan Arts Gallery Hall, which features a collection of Lin's stone sculptures. Meanwhile, in the resort's specially designed sculpture garden the works of two other famous Taiwanese sculptors -- Yang Yin-Feng and Chu Ming -- are also displayed. Because all three sculptors were born in the lunar year of Ox, the area was named the Ox Ear Arts Garden.

Lin's sculpture works are famous for their plain nature, therefore he is also known as the plain artist. At the age of 10, Lin began working as a farmer. Since then he had done works such as stone cutting, carpentry and various hard works for a living. He retired at the age of 65 and began working creatively as an artist. He worked on stone, wood, paper and cloth, and did both sculpture and painting. His works are of a plain nature, without any trace of artificial maneuvering or theoretical principle. The Ox Ear Arts Garden and the Lin Yuan Arts Gallery Hall were built to exhibit Lin's works so that those interested in studying his style can come and appreciate his creative talents. The exhibition in the Lin Yuan Arts Gallery Hall includes a wide range of Lin's works, including sculpture, stone cutting drawings, drawings on plain materials, wood cutting drawings, embroidery and metal sculpture.

The New Era Art Resort also consists of a Children Arts Gallery Hall, an exhibition hall for local art works, a traditional-style tea house that features Nantou's folk cultural heritage, and a shop that highlights Puli's local craft works. Guides are available for local and international visitors who are interested in knowing more about the life and works of Lin Yuan the artist.
