Budai Fishing Harbor Tourist Fish Market

Budai Township in west-central Taiwan's Chiayi County is famous for its fishing port. The port's tourist fish market was set up by the Chiayi County Fishermen's Association so that local residents and other visitors can purchase all kinds of fresh and even live seafood in the direct sales center here. They can even consume the seafood on the spot, in the fish market's seafood restaurant.

The Tourist Fish Market contains more than 50 eateries. Some are like street vendors and sell very reasonably priced snacks such as oyster-filled doughy dumplings. Other eateries offer sumptuous meals in air-conditioned comfort, such as sashimi, oyster omelets, grilled seafood and deep-fried squid. Local and international visitors can simply point to order what they want.

In recent years, many of the fishermen here have switched their profession. Now, around the harbor area, they offer fishing raft services to local and international tourists. Hire one of the rafts, and one can enjoy a tour of the coastal scenery and the floating clam-farming frames. Such ecological pleasures have become one of Budai's most powerful tourist attractions.
