Aogu Wetlands
The Aogu Wetlands is currently the biggest wetland in Taiwan. The area's ecological space consists of lagoons, sand bars, fishing farms and beefwood forests. A large number of water birds are attracted to this area, including Egrets, Black Drongos, Japanese White-eyes, Grey Plovers, Black-Headed Gulls, Moorhens, Northern Shovelers and Night Egrets. Visitors are welcome to hire a bamboo raft and go to the sea to have an excellent view of the wetland. There is no visitor's center here, nor any information boards. Local and international visitors are encouraged to bring a field guide and binoculars. The access road is too small for tour buses, so relatively few people come here often. As a consequence, the wildlife here has been able to thrive largely undisturbed. Prepare to spend at least three hours here to enjoy the area's natural beauty. |
