Lan Tan (Holland Lake)

LAN Tan, or Holland Lake, is located in the northeastern suburbs of Chiayi City in west-central Taiwan's Chiayi County. In 1620, the Dutch built the dam at the nearby Pachang Creek. During the Japanese colonial occupation of Taiwan (1895-1945), the Japanese also built a dam here to improve the area's waterworks. Today, LAN Tan is the reservoir that supplies drinking and irrigation water to Chiayi City.

LAN Tan is also a tourist resort. The Moonlight of LAN Tan is one of the eight major scenes of Chiayi City. The lake is surrounded by green hills and various walking tracks. There are also plenty of recreational facilities around. Local and international visitors often come here to watch wild birds.
