Chiayi City Historic Relic Data Museum
The
Chiayi City Historic Relic Data Museum has been listed as a historic site.
It contains two buildings -- the religious fast house and the social affair
house. The fast house was a place for fast and preparation before sacrifices.
The social affairs house, which was connected to the Chiayi Shrine during
the Japanese colonial occupation of Taiwan (1895-1945), was an office
for the shrine's administration management.
Both buildings were constructed in Japanese architectural style. Their
ceilings, paper doors and verandahs, as well as the details of their roofs
such as the eaves, ridges and spines, are like those of traditional Japanese
buildings. Today, the two buildings can be seen as representative of traditional
Japanese residential culture.
The
Chiayi City Government assigned professional reconstruction agencies to
restore the two buildings. In October 1998, the fully restored and repaired
buildings were ratified by the government as a distinguished historic
site. On September 15, 2001, the Chiayi City Historic Relic Data Museum
was opened to the public. It is considered the best place where one can
understand the history of Chiayi.
