Tsengwen Reservoir

The Tsengwen Reservoir is located in Dapu Township in west-central Taiwan's Chiayi County. It was built to regulate the flow of the Tsengwen River and to provide for the full utilization of its water. Its ultimate aim is to improve and expand agricultural irrigation in the Tainan area. Besides irrigation, the Tsengwen Reservoir also serves the functions of electricity generation and tourism.

The Tsengwen Reservoir is the largest reservoir in Taiwan. The expanse of water adds to the considerable beauty of the surrounding mountains. The parts of the reservoir that have been opened to the public now offer camping areas, guest cottages, outdoor exercise facilities and areas for water sports.

The reference library at the Tsengwen Reservoir offers multimedia shows and illustrations to introduce the reservoir's facilities. The library also provides travel information as well as interpretations of the area's ecology and environment.

In the area of the Tsengwen Reservoir's No. 5 Bridge is an aviary and roadside garden. The aviary contains all kinds of flowers and other plants. The luxuriant foliage of the vegetation and the thick shade of the trees make this an enchantingly pleasant place. There are also many kinds of birds here, whose ecology and habits are explained by the aviary's illustrations and introductions.
