Yushan and Chirrip form sister parks

This article was published by the Tourism Bureau in October 2006. It reports that Taiwan's Ambassador to Costa Rica and that country's Ministry of Environment and Energy recently signed an agreement to create a sister relationship between Taiwan's Yushan National Park and Costa Rica's Chirrip National Mark. This agreement makes this national park in Central America the second of Yushan's sister parks, the first being the La Tigra National Park in Honduras.

According to the Yushan National Park's administration, Yushan and Chirrip have much in come. Both feature the highest mountain in their respective countries, both boast of abundant natural resources and diverse habitats, and both have marvelous mountain scenery. More importantly, the protection and preservation of the environment was the main reason behind the establishment of both national parks.

Indeed, the new relationship between the two national parks is expected to be beneficial for both sides in terms of information and experience exchange, as well as the training of administration personnel.
