Great Buddha Scenic Area

The Great Buddha Scenic Area is located on the hills of the Bagua Mountain, overlooking Changhua City in central Taiwan's Changhua County. The area features an impressive statue of Buddha, which is 86-foot high. The statue is a special landmark of the city.

The statue of the Buddha was built in 1961. It was once the biggest statue of the Buddha in the whole Asia. Today, the Great Buddha Scenic Area welcomes tens of thousands of local and international visitors every year. It is also an important athletic arena for the people of Changhua County.

The inside of the statue is divided into six sections. The lowest part is a Buddhist sanctuary. The second to the fifth floors are exhibitions about Buddha's life and achievements. There is also a corridor that displays Buddhist artifacts contributed by religious followers.

The Great Buddha Scenic Area also features other tourist facilities such as multimedia presentation rooms, community culture exhibitions, walking tracks, gardens, water dancing shows, information booths, restaurants and souvenir shops.
