Nangang Tea Processing Demonstration Center

The representative tea in Taipei City's Nangang District is the Baochon (or Paochung) Tea. About 150 years ago, a man from Mainland China's Fukien Province, Xi Cheng Wang, produced Baochon Tea into Anxi Tea in accordance to the production method of Wuyiyan Tea. After it was produced, the tea leaves were folded into rectangular shapes and packaged with Fukien's bamboo writing paper in corresponding rectangular shapes, both on the inside and outside. The name of the tea and the store seal were stamped on the outside of the package, which is how the name "Baochon" came to place ("bao" means "wrapping" or "packaging", "chon" means "type" or "style").

The Nangang Baochon Tea is half fermented. The tea leaves are blackish green, and the fragrance is pleasing.

In order to further enhance the standard of Nangang Baochon Tea production, Taipei City's Department of Economic Development mapped out the Nangang Tea Processing Demonstration Center in 1991. The center, covering 2.9 hectares, was officially opened in 2002. Facilities within the center consist of the tea leaf production mechanical instrument showcase section, the tea appreciation section, and a presentation room. Outdoor facilities consist of observation platforms for the center's surrounding beautiful scenery.

The Nankang Tea Processing Demonstration Center is located in Taipei City's Nankang District. Visitors can take Bannan Line of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) network and get off at Kunyang Station. Then take local bus to the center.
