Maokong

Maokong is located in Taipei City's Wenshan District. It is said that tea farmers from southern China came here to open teahouses. Later, the teahouses declined and customers no longer came. It was as if the domesticated cats had run away, thus the place was called "Maokong" ("mao" means "cat", and "kong" means "empty").

However, Maokong has developed its unique sightseeing and tea tasting industry because students of the nearby Chengchi University frequently hold activities here. The students' nightlife also brings about prosperity in the region.

The tea farms in Maokong are famous for Bochon tea and Tie Guan Ing Tea. There are many teahouses with diversified styles. They are good places to visit as they provide tea tasting and meals. In the daytime, nearby tea trees and green hills form great scenery. Many people visiting the place also do hiking. After dusk, Maokong is an enchanting place. Colorful light bulbs are lit in front of every building. Visitors taste tea, chat with each other and admire the nightfall. Sometimes groups of young people have parties and their laughter brings a touch of vigor to Maokong.

Visitors can take the Mucha Line of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) network and get off at Wangfang. Then take the local bus No 10 to Maokong Stop.
